What you see on the invoice — and what you do not

The factory per-unit price is the cost of the product on loading day in China. Everything else happens en route: air or sea freight, customs clearance, duty and import VAT payable at release, a customs agency, possible storage fees during inspection.

Then comes the part that appears on no invoice: cash frozen for 3-4 weeks and the risk that the shipment stalls in clearance — and in the vape category inspections can be thorough.

A worked example: 500 pcs of big puffs

Direct import: factory price + freight + duty + import VAT + agency + time. Delivery from a Polish warehouse: a DDP wholesale price — all of the above already counted inside, zero surcharge at receipt.

On paper the unit from China often comes out a few percent cheaper. After full costs and a month of frozen cash the advantage disappears — while clearance risk stays on your side. With DDP the logistics risk sits on ours.

Time = cash

Three weeks of waiting means three weeks where your cash works for the freight, not for the shelf. In the same period a locally sourced shop completes a full cycle: order → sale → restock → next sale. Two monthly turns instead of one — that is the real difference in annual margin.

When direct import still makes sense

At very large repeatable volumes, with clearance risk accepted as a cost of doing business. Below that threshold — which is most Polish shops — the math is unambiguous: local DDP stock wins on total cost.
